IRON INFUSIONS

An iron infusion is a medical treatment used to deliver iron directly into the bloodstream via an intravenous (IV) line.

This method is often used when oral iron supplements are not effective, not well-tolerated, or when a person needs a faster increase in iron levels.

Iron infusions may be recommended for patients with conditions that cause significant iron deficiency, such as:

  1. Iron Deficiency Anemia
  2. Malabsorption Disorders
  3. Heavy Menstrual Bleeding and other conditions.

To have an Iron Infusions completed at Burwood Health, you will need to speak with your doctor who will review your history and make the recommendation if required.

Iron Infusions are completed by the practice’s nursing team over a specified time range, approximately 1 hour.

If you would like to find out more about Iron Infusions, or if you have been recommended to have an infusion by your doctor, please contact the practice and ask to speak to a nurse (our reception team are unable to book an appointment for Iron Infusions).
