Burwood Health is proud to offer a caring, accepting and safe environment for all of our patients.

Welcome to Burwood Health

At Burwood Health, we are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered healthcare. Since opening in November 2019, we have continued to grow, expanding our services and team to better meet the needs of our community.

As a Pegasus Health practice, we are part of a network dedicated to improving primary healthcare services. We hold both Foundation Standards and Cornerstone Accreditation, reflecting our commitment to excellence, safety, and continuous improvement in patient care.

Our experienced team includes General Practitioners, nurses, and support staff, along with a Health Improvement Practitioner and a Health Coach, all working together to provide comprehensive medical care. As a teaching practice, we take pride in supporting the next generation of GPs, ensuring they gain valuable experience while enhancing the quality of care we offer.

Whether you need routine medical care, support for a long-term condition, or guidance on improving your well-being, Burwood Health is here for you.

12-Month-Prescriptions – What You Need to Know

You may have heard that General Practitioners can now provide 12-month prescriptions in certain circumstances. While this option is available, it may not always be the most appropriate choice for your individual health needs, particularly if regular monitoring is required.

If you are interested in a 12-month prescription, there are a few important steps to follow:

  • Book an appointment with your registered provider
Your GP will assess whether a 12-month prescription is safe and suitable for your specific medical conditions and medications.
  • Ensure your account is up to date
Your account must be paid in full before a prescription can be issued.
  • Plan ahead for your annual review
If a 12-month prescription is provided, you will still need to see your usual doctor at least once every 12 months. We recommend booking your follow-up appointment 3–4 weeks before your medication runs out to ensure continuity of care.

Our priority is to ensure your medications remain safe, effective, and appropriate for your ongoing health. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the practice.

ADHD Prescribing Changes – What This Means for You

ou may have heard that from 1 February 2026, vocationally registered GPs in New Zealand are now able to assess, diagnose, and prescribe medications for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

While this change increases access in some areas, it has not been accompanied by additional funding or resources to support general practices in delivering full ADHD assessment services.

What this means at Burwood Health

We have carefully reviewed whether we can offer ADHD assessments within our practice. At this stage, we do not have the capacity to provide comprehensive ADHD assessments to the standard we expect for our patients.

As a result, if you are seeking an ADHD diagnosis, you will still need to be assessed by:

  • A clinical psychologist, or
  • A GP at another practice offering this service

Please note that the cost of a GP-based assessment elsewhere is often similar to that of a private psychologist assessment.

How we can support you

Although we are not currently offering ADHD assessments, we are still here to support you throughout your journey. We can:

  • Discuss ADHD with you and help you decide whether pursuing an assessment is appropriate
  • Prescribe ADHD medications once you have received a formal diagnosis
  • Provide ongoing management and follow-up care

Our commitment to your care

We understand this may be disappointing, particularly for those who were hoping to have an assessment completed within our practice.

At Burwood Health, we are committed to providing care that is safe, thorough, and of a consistently high standard. At this time, we do not feel we can deliver ADHD assessments to the level of quality our patients deserve.

If you would like to talk through your options or next steps, we encourage you to book an appointment with your GP.
