Burwood Health has in place a Zero Tolerance Policy to ensure a safe and respectful environment for both patients and healthcare staff.

This policy sets clear expectations for behavior and outlines consequences for inappropriate actions, particularly addressing issues such as verbal or physical abuse, harassment, and violence.

Prohibited Behavior:

  • Verbal Abuse: Yelling, insulting, or threatening healthcare staff or other patients.
  • Physical Abuse: Any form of physical violence or threats of violence.
  • Discrimination and Harassment: Discriminatory language or behavior based on race, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation.
  • Sexual Harassment: Inappropriate comments or actions of a sexual nature directed at staff or other patients.
  • Non-compliance with Safety Protocols: Refusal to adhere to health and safety guidelines (e.g., not wearing masks during infectious outbreaks).

Why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy

  • Protecting Staff and Patients: Ensures that healthcare workers can perform their duties without fear of abuse or harm.
  • Maintaining a Safe Environment: Supports a therapeutic environment where all patients can feel safe receiving care.
  • Supporting Staff Well-being: Aims to reduce burnout and stress by providing a clear recourse in the face of unacceptable behavior.

If a patient or any person who attends an appointment at the practice is abusive or aggressive towards staff and/or other patients, the police will be notified and you may be removed from our enrolled patients list.

We understand that patients may have personal and health issues occurring that are upsetting, however, our team are here to help you in any way possible.
