CHILDHOOD VACCINATIONS

Burwood Health offers vaccinations from 6 weeks of age and recommends the immunisation schedule as per the Ministry of Health.

 

Childhood vaccinations are an effective step to ensuring your child is well protected against illnesses as they grow.

 

Available vaccines include:

  • Chickenpox
  • Diphtheria
  • Hepatitis B
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Whooping cough
  • And more

ADULT IMMUNISATIONS

There are a range of vaccinations and immunisations available to ensure you and your whanau’s ongoing health and safety.

 

Meningococcal Disease

Meningococcal disease is a serious condition which can cause meningitis and septicimia (blood poisoning).  Ensuring that your vaccination is up to date is important.

 

Meningococcal ACWY is now available for individual between 13 – 25 years who are entering or currently living in boarding hostels, halls of residence, military barracks or prisions.  This vaccine will protect again the meningitis strains ACWY, which are commonly spread via saliva, sharing drinks and living close together.

 

 

Shingles Vaccination

Shingles is a reactivation of the chickenpox virus and can present as a rash or blisters, generally on the torso of the body.

 

The shingles vaccine is funded for those over 65 years of age.  To find out more, please visit www.immune.org.nz

 

 

Influenza Vaccination

Influenza (Flu) is a common disease which affects people through all ages and stages of their life.  There is no cure for the flu, however, ensuring that you have the available influenza vaccination each year can help to decrease the effects of the virus.

 

Each year, Burwood Health offers the most up-to-date vaccine available, and for some patients, this vaccination is funded.

 

 

Whooping Cough Vaccination

Whooping cough is a serious illness that can affect babies and children.  The whooping cough vaccination is given to children as a part of their childhood immunisation course.

 

It is recommended that all pregnant women have a Whooping Cough vaccination to help protect themselves and their unborn child.

MINOR SURGERY

 

It’s important to take care of your body, inside and out.  Your skin is the largest organ of the human body, and can be affected by factors such as the sun’s UV rays.  The early any abnormalities are detected, the easier they are to treat.

 

Burwood Health offers a range of minor surgeries (after an initial consultation) to ensure the ongoing health of our patients.  If you become concerned about a skin lesion it is important to speak to your doctor.

URGENT CARE

If it is a medical emergency, phone 111

 

If you require urgent care, please phone the medical centre from 8 am.

 

We will either arrange an appointment for you to be seen that day, or arrange for a nurse or doctor to phone you back.

 

You can phone the practice at any time of the day or night.

The practice offers an after hours service with Healthline, where you will be able to speak with a registered nurse who will advise you about whether you need to be seen immediately at the 24 hour surgery, or to wait until the following day.

 

The 24 Hour Surgery is located on the corner of Madras St and Bealey Ave, entrance is off Dollans Lane.

If you are concerned that you are not being seen in a timely manner, please request that a nurse phones you back to discuss your symptoms.

CERVICAL SMEARS

The National Screening Unit recommends all sexually active females have regular smear tests between the age of 25 and 70 years.

 

The cervical smear tests are performed by our nurses.

IRON INFUSIONS

Burwood Health offers iron infusions to patients who suffering from anemia.

Anemia is caused from a deficiency in the red blood cells in your body, and an iron infusion is a means by which the levels can be quickly and safely increased within your body.
